Poetic Dance
August 31 - September 29, 2022

Jang Design Art will hold Carrie's solo exhibition 《Poetic Dance》 from August 31st (Wed) to September 29th (Thu). Carrie draws on the canvas the sense of the moment felt in the change of time and space through the relationship and contingency between the delicately expressed formative elements. Strokes and lines created through accumulation, not representation, represent the imperfect appearance of modern people who live in anguish and desire for perfection.

The mass of blue that the artist creates begins with the artist's tactility. The wind, temperature, and humidity encountered in everyday life are objects of curiosity and observation for the artist. The artist says that the strength of the wind facing a running car stimulates the body, and the stimulation awakens the cells of the sensory organs. This exhibition is meaningful in that it attempted to diversify colors by using orange as well as the mass of blue that has been shown so far. The colors of the mass are inspired by temporality and natural sights, such as a misty blue night, minutely visible lights, the mixed air of a cold blue dawn, and the subtle overlapping moments of orange in the blue sky before sunset or sunrise. said to have received

Carrie arranges several canvases on the floor and paints them irregularly with blue paint. I paint freely, but I intentionally build Carrie's own blue mass by piling up paints over and over again until I get a color and shape I like. The artist draws out memories such as the movement of ocean currents, ripples of calm water, and the traces of rough waves through association work, builds them up with paint, and continues to work until he is satisfied. This lump is completed in the process of pursuing perfection through steady efforts without wishing for luck. However, unlike the mass that pursues perfection, various strokes and lines freely use various mediums such as acrylic spray, pencil, and colored pencil, and the artist expresses the spontaneity of unconscious and instinctive actions on the canvas. In this way, strokes and lines created through accumulation rather than representation, and the work completed with the relationship between them and contingency represent the imperfect appearance of modern people who live in anguish and desire for perfection.

We all dream of a wonderful future. But the reality is unfinished and unsettling. The sense of inferiority I feel compared to others, a sense of crisis, and these things make my impatience feel like a burden to live and enjoy the reality. Looking at Carrie's work, it is perfect, but the freedom in it makes us look back on our condition tired of the harsh reality. The artist said that while preparing for the exhibition, he thought of the children's song 'Stop as it is' that we have heard since childhood. Through this exhibition, we hope to summon memories of the senses that are deeply buried and experience the true freedom that the moment of time provides.
