Jang Design Art is holding ⟪Trunk Show⟫, a solo exhibition of Jihee Kim from August 13th (Sat) to August 27th (Sat). This solo exhibition commemorates the first anniversary of the release of the Trunk series, as a commemorative exhibition for the production of the Shield Smile Trunk music box, and 50 new editions of the Shield Smile figure music box and trunk will be released.
Kim Ji-hee immerses the viewer into the screen by creating a bold composition by arranging the face of a person or animal icon on the front of the screen and intense beauty with sparkling primary colors.
In Kim Ji-hee's <Sealed Smile> series, the face of a girl with a light smile appears mainly. Behind the splendid crown and glasses surrounded by numerous decorations, her gaze is completely hidden. By subtly conceiving these conflicting iconographic devices and modes of light and dark, the artist expresses the alienated inner side of human beings, such as happiness and fiction, possession and deficiency, and the consumerist desires of modern society. The two desires that cannot be separated like good and evil, creation and extinction, these extremely inevitable and realistic narratives in Kim Ji-hee's works induce reflective thinking about the desires of life that constantly flow in our lives and provide daily comfort. .
Images such as tigers and owls often appear in the <Sealed Smile> series, and Jihee Kim mysteriously embodies the symbolism and power of auspiciousness of these animals on the screen by depicting the characters of these icons in a richer and three-dimensional manner._cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_
Jihee Kim's shield smile trunk series was inspired by the trunk bags of the 19th century, when travel was possible thanks to the invention of the railroad, and started with a 'trunk bag hanging on the wall' as a motif. The new shield smile figure music box presented in this exhibition is endowed with a sculptural presence, suggesting that it breathe more vividly with the audience.
As the artist said, it is difficult to converge into one, there is a three-dimensional space and senses that cross infinite boundaries on the screen in Jihee Kim's work. I hope that those who encounter Jihee Kim's paintings will be able to experience this brilliant and surreal experience.
